I did my paperwork correctly this time, and finally received a visa to enter Russia. After taking a two day ferry from Japan to Vladivostok (with a short stopover at a South Korean port), I rode the Trans-Siberian railroad across the vast country’s entire length. Along the way I stopped in Irkutsk (Lake Baikal), Moscow, and St. Petersburg. I left Russia via overnight bus to Helsinki, Finland. Most everything was closed to a big summer solstice festival, and I was soon on a plane to the land of fire and ice.
